Guwahati: Due to the rising water level in the Brahmaputra River, Inland Water Transport,Assam has announced the temporary closure of the ferry services between Kamalabari in Majuli and Jorhat's Nimatighat.
The decision was made as a preventative step to guarantee the security of travellers and ships.
Additionally, the middle-of-Aphalamukh and Nimatighat ferry service, known as the Gutia, has been suspended.
The authorities have taken this action to avoid any accidents or incidents that might happen as a result of the difficult conditions brought on by rising water levels.
Before the services may restart, passengers are recommended to find alternative transportation options.
According to reports that surfaced on Saturday, National Highway-37 in the Jorhat district of Assam has once more been buried by the Teok River's swelling waters.
After a prolonged period of rain on Friday night, the National Highway is now completely submerged. In Jorhat's Teok town, the water logging has disturbed daily life and hampered vehicle mobility.
According to reports, Teok town's Wards 7, 5, 8, and 9 have been submerged by floodwaters. The flood waters have affected several additional residential areas in Teok, including Notun Sapori, Bahbari, Achyut Marg, and Seleng Path.
Notably, following high rainfall activity over the previous 24 hours, the flood situation in Assam worsened in at least six districts of the state on Friday, despite initial signs of relief. Disang River in Nanglamuraghat and Dikhou River in Sivasagar are both flowing above the danger threshold at the moment.
Train service was suspended on Thursday in Mariani town in the Jorhat district of Assam due to the rising water level.
The town experienced artificial flooding as a result of the last night's torrential rain, submerging the railroad tracks. Multiple trains were stopped at the Mariani intersection as a result.
Additionally, a number of trains were halted at the Titabar and Nakachari rail stations. People's routines have been disturbed by the railway stoppage.
Due to the constant rain that has caused floods, the road between Nakachari and Chelenghat is also underwater.
