Assam: Karam Puja held in Tupia

JAMUGURIHAT: Karam Puja, one of the prime festivals of the Adivasi community, was observed at Tupia on Monday. The Puja, convened by All Assam Bhumij Samaj in collaboration with the Gorhpur, Behali, Biswanath, and Naduar regional committees of the Samaj, was inaugurated by Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika. At the very outset of the programme, meritorious students were accorded a warm felicitation by the organizer. Addressing the gathering, MLA Hazarika traced the origin of the Karam Puja and made a humble appeal to all concerned to work unitedly for the all-round development of the community. Later on, the artists from the Bhumij community performed the Jhumur dance. The puja was also attended by Budheswar Bhumij, Rajesh Bhumij, Jahar Bhumij, and Keshab Bhumij, among other adhibhasi leaders of the locality.
