Guwahati: The newly-elected members of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) were on Monday administered the oath of office by Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi.

Governor Mukhi also urged the members to work towards upholding democratic traditions and the overall development of the people.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also participated in the program.

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter after the swearing-in ceremony, Mukhi tweeted, "Glad to attend the swearing-in ceremony of elected members of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council elections in Diphu. I wish every member of KAAC all the best." I am sure they will respect democracy and work for the development of the people of the region."

The BJP had swept the KAAC election held earlier this month, bagging all the 26 seats.

The saffron party had participated in all the 26 seats, while the Congress battled for 24 seats. Besides this, AAP contested for 102 seats and the CPIL (ML) stood for 15, among others.

According to the State Election Commission, 77.96 percent of voting was recorded.
