Assam: Karbi Anglong District Marks 72nd Foundation Day with Grand Celebrations

GUWAHATI: In a jubilant commemoration, Karbi Anglong district observed its 72nd foundation day at the Longnit High School Playground, fondly known as Batchen Aklam. Orchestrated by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), the festivities were not only colorful and dynamic but also aligned with the 'Unity, Victory, and Prosperity Rally' of Singhason Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency.

Dr. Numal Momin, the Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly and MLA of Bokajan, participated in the event and lauded the district's progress under the leadership of Tuliram Ronghang, the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KAAC. Dr. Momin acknowledged the transformative changes and rapid development taking place, expressing optimism that Karbi Anglong, under CEM Ronghang's stewardship, would soon match the development standards set by other districts in Assam.

CEM Tuliram Ronghang, in his address, deemed the day a momentous occasion for the people of Karbi Anglong. The celebrations coincided with the 'Unity, Victory, and Prosperity' rally, emphasizing the welfare schemes implemented in Singhason. Reflecting on the district's history, he paid homage to past leaders like Sarsing Teron, Semson Sing Ingti, Harsing Engti, and others who played a pivotal role in the creation of the district on November 17, 1951.

Highlighting the autonomy enjoyed by Karbi Anglong under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution since 1976, CEM Ronghang stressed the need for the district to produce more leaders and emphasized the development of education to foster professionals in various fields.

The CEM also announced grand plans for the 75th KAAC foundation day (diamond jubilee), expressing intentions to invite the President, Prime Minister, and Chief Minister of Assam for a grand celebration at Taralangso. He emphasized the harmonious coexistence of all tribes and communities in Karbi Anglong, urging cooperation for the district's continued development.

The celebration featured the distribution of village council certificates to 172 Karbi traditional village headmen, along with agricultural seeds and tools. CEM Ronghang inaugurated the hongpharla courtyard of Sarkari Goanburas, constructed under MAC development funds, and unveiled the office of the Karbi Students Association (KSA) at Longnit.

MLAs Rupsing Teron, Bidyasing Engleng, Dorsing Ronghang, along with KAAC chairman Raju Tisso and deputy chairman Ajit Dey, added to the grandeur of the event. The day concluded with the distribution of books on Karbi Anglong's history, KAAC constitution, and Karbi customary law to the village headmen, encapsulating a day of celebration, reflection, and aspirations for a brighter future.
