GUWAHATI: In a welcome development for wildlife lovers and tourists, the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNP) authority on Saturday started an online ticket booking service.

People visiting Kaziranga can book e-tickets by logging in to the www.kazirangasafari.in portal via their mobile phones and with the help of an OTP (one-time password) and online payment. The e-tickets will be applicable for both jeep safari and elephant safari.

Earlier, booking for the park safaris could be done only once the tourists reached Kaziranga. The online ticket booking process was officially inaugurated by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Ramesh Kumar Gogoi at Mihimukh in the Kohora range on Saturday morning. Talking to The Sentinel, Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve Director Jatindra Sarma said that the e-ticket system will help both domestic and foreign tourists.

Presently, only jeep safaris are operational in the Kohora and Bagori ranges due to inclement weather.

Sarma said that elephant safari is likely to start either in October-end or the first part of November.

The other ranges will be also opened for tourists shortly, he said.

It may be mentioned that tourist footfall at KNP last year had broken all previous records.
