Assam: Kaziranga National Park opens for tourists in 2023-24 season

GOLAGHAT: State Forest and Environment Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary opened the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve under the jurisdiction of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division for tourists for the season 2023-24 from Sunday.

At the outset of the event, the minister inaugurated the PD Strachey Library in Kaziranga and also released the book titled Eastern Swamp Deer in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve Assam, India Status and Distribution published by the Directorate of Kaziranga National Park, and another book titled Elephants and Mauts written by Bubul Sharma. He then opened a bicycle station for tourists. The Jeep Safari Centre in Kaziranga National Park was also inaugurated.

The entire event was attended by State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, District Commissioner of Golaghat, Dr. P. Uday Praveen, Superintendent of Police, Golaghat, Rajen Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forests (Assam), MK Yadav, and others. The ministers embarked on a jeep safari from Mihimukh soon after the event. In the end, the ministers inaugurated two Eco Development Committees (SHGs) and Self Help Groups and Distribution Centres at Kaziranga.

Earlier, the Divisional Forest Officer of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division said, “In view of present road conditions due to inclement weather, the park is partially opened only for Jeep Safari in two ranges - Kaziranga Range, Kohora and Western Range, Bagori.”

The order copy read, “The Kaziranga Range, Kohora and Western Range, Bagori will remain closed every Wednesday afternoon. At present, the tourists are allowed to travel up to Bimoli Tiniali via Donga Tower under Western Range, Bagori and from Mihimukh via Daflang Tower via Vaichamari Junction under Kaziranga Range, Kohora till further notification/orders.”
