Assam: Kaziranga National Park Re-Opens Pelican Colony For Tourists

The 'pelican colony' hosts about 478 kinds of birds in the Kaziranga National Park which has had about fifteen thousand tourists since it re-opened its doors for tourists.

Guwahati: On Friday, the Kaziranga National Park reopened its 'pelican colony' for tourists. The Sub Divisional Officer of Bokakhat, Dr. Neha Ahmed did the honours of formally opening the 'pelican colony' for tourists on Friday at a brief function.

The Agoratoli range that falls under the Kaziranga National Park, also known as the 'pelican colony' is home to 478 different spices of birds.

While the Kaziranga National Park had resumed tourism last month, it had not fully re-opened due to flood-situation in certain areas. Since the water level has receded during the winter months, the pelicans have been relocated to the Chohola beel of the park for the convenience of the birds as well as the tourists. 

According to officials, the park has witnessed more than fifteen thousand visitors ever since it re-opened for tourists. The elephant-safari will also be soon resumed from the first-week of November for foreign and domestic tourists. For this purpose, the park authorities will provide four 40 elephants, of which 12 belong to the park and the rest 28 have been provided from private owners.

The Bandorduni tourist spot under Bagori Range was also jointly opened by SDO (C) of Kaliabor Pabitra Kumar Das and DFO of Nagaon. It connects the Kaziranga National Park with the Burhapahar Range .

The park is expecting increase in footfall as restriction related to COVID-19 are slowly being lifted by the Assam government.
