Assam Khas Mahasabha was formed in a meeting held at Nepali Mandir to demand Scheduled Tribe status of Gorkhas residing in Assam.

UDALGURI: Assam Khas Mahasabha was formed in a meeting held at Nepali Mandir to demand Scheduled Tribe status of Gorkhas residing in Assam. The meeting has decided to fill up the portfolios in their first executive meeting. The Assam Khas Mahasabha will form district committees and the organization will discuss the issues of Gorkhas in Assam. The programme was inaugurated by the general secretary of Assam Gorkha Sanmellan Lakshmi Sedai. Keshav Basnet of Chirang was selected as president and Jagat Acharya of Tinsukia as general secretary to lead the organisation. While Dr Harka Bahadur Chetry, Dipak Nirola and other dignitaries were kept as advisers to the committee.
