KHERONI: The traditional Langkhong Puja Festival of the Tiwa Community of the state was celebrated with great pomp and enjoyment on Sunday.
The traditional Lankhong Puja of the Tiwa Community of Assam is a socio-religious event, wherein the people pray for a good crop in the upcoming Rabi crop season. The members of the community make offerings and pray to the gods for a good harvest during this festival. Cultural events including music and dance are also part of the event.
The festival was organised by the Tiwa Cultural Samaj with a day-long programme on the promises of the Deramukh M E School. This location falls in the Bithung Rengthama constituency of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. The event saw the presentation of multiple traditional dance performances in front of the guests and the attendees.
Executive member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Prabhat Chandra Taro attended the event as the chief guest. Several other dignitaries also attended this event.
Previously a group of 18 Bagurumba dancers from Ramfalbil and Kokrajhar left for Vietnam to participate in the Northeast India Festival being held at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. The festival is a big showcase of the cultural heritage of the Northeast India. At least 18 Bodo women left for Vietnam to participate in the NE India Festival to be held at Mo Chi Minh City. Sources said the Bagurumba dance troupe led by Dilip Narzary will demonstrate traditional Bagurumba dance in the mega NE India Festival. The Bagurumba dance troupe is a collection of dancers from the Bodoland Cultural Centre, Ramfalbil and Kokrajhar town.
Ministers UG Brahma and Atul Bora and MLA Lawrence Islary have also left for Vietnam to participate in the NE India Festival. Also, the Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA) has been organizing workshops in every nook and corner of the State and beyond to make traditional Bagurumba dance a widely known traditional dance among the indigenous communities in the world. The Bagurumba dance has been getting wide exposure across the world and receiving huge applause because of the distinct and beautiful art and customs of the Bodos.
