RAHA: In an operation carried by by the Raha police, a sizeable consignment of Burmese betel nuts was seized from a dumper. The incident took place in the Rqha region of the state.
Based on key information, Raha Police carried out an operation which led to the seizure of 25 sacks of illegal Burmese betel nuts. The contraband was seized from a Dumper truck bearing registration number AS 04 AC 9070/
Police sources revealed that they had received information that a dumper truck had loaded illegal Burmese supari and was on its way to Guwahati in Assam from Dimapur in Nagaland. Acting based on this input, the police team intercepted the vehicle near the toll plaza in Raha and recovered the betel nuts from the vehicle. The market value of the seized betel nut consignment is estimated to be around Rs 15 lakh informed the police.
The police team also apprehended the driver of the vehicle in connection to the incident and initiated an investigation regarding the matter.
In another major operation, the authorities at the Diphu railway station in Assam executed a successful seizure of a significant quantity of Burmese supari on Friday night. The illicit contraband, comprising 10 sacks of Burmese supari, was intercepted during the inspection of the Tinsukia-Lumding passenger train. Sources indicate that diligent officials also apprehended a smuggler identified as Sanjay Dey in connection with the unlawful possession of the supari.
Following this intervention, the Diphu police promptly filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Government Railway Police (GRP), initiating a legal process to address the incident. Earlier, in a remarkable operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) stationed at Lumding Railway Station in Hojai, Assam, successfully rescued 74 wild turtles from the clutches of alleged wildlife smugglers. This daring rescue mission unfolded following a tip-off received by the authorities, leading to a collaborative operation between the RPF and the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) on a fateful Monday evening.
