TINSUKIA: Tinsukia Law College is set to introduce a groundbreaking initiative, unveiling its legal aid centre christened Justice Junction, aimed at providing free legal assistance to those in need.
Pioneering in the country, this initiative offers free legal consultations exclusively through phone calls. The programme will be inaugurated on January 10, 2024, by Dr. Rupam Saikia, Inspector of Colleges, Dibrugarh University.
According to Sanjay Khaitan, principal of the college, the programme allows individuals to seek free legal advice simply by dialling a specified phone number (7099930121) between 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. A meticulously selected and trained team of law college students will be on hand to assist callers, and the student will diligently record the caller's issue, providing initial consultations over the phone. If a more detailed analysis or face-to-face discussion is deemed necessary, callers will be invited to visit the legal aid centre in person for resolution.
The innovative programme has sparked enthusiasm among students who recognise the challenges faced by many due to a lack of understanding of legal intricacies. Students believe that this initiative will significantly benefit individuals grappling with legal difficulties.
