Assam ; Literary session on Pragjyotishpur Literature Festival held in BN College

DHUBRI: The first literary session focusing on the objectives and essence of the first Pragjyotishpur Literature Festival was organized by the Department of Assamese, BN College, Dhubri recently. The Pragjyotishpur Literature Festival will be held from September 29 to October 1 in Guwahati.

Director of Nature’s Beckon, Northeast India and working president of Pragjyotishpur Literature Festival, Soumyadeep Datta, graced the occasion as the invited speaker. The programme was inaugurated by Vice Principal, BN College, Dhubri, Rita Bora while Head of Department for Assamese of the college, Dr Upendrajit Sarma explained the objectives of this programme.

Faculty of BN College, Dr Polly Bezbaruah, led a group of students presented group song performance and Bharat Vandana was performed by one of the students in Sanskrit language. The programme also included recital of self composed poetry by the participants.

Soumyadeep Datta spoke about the importance of connecting with the roots of civilization and the encouraged the students to read and learn more about Indian civilization, historical and linguistic heritage. Datta encouraged the young generation to contribute towards the growth of literature in regional languages of India.

Speaking on the objectives of the Pragjyotishpur Literature Festival, Datta highlighted the importance of India’s rich linguistic heritage. “Every Indian language is National language, the growth and progress of literature in regional languages is of great significance for preservation of our cultural history,” Datta added.

The Prgajyotishpur Literature Festival in an endeavour to mobilize literature to connect with and empower the roots of civilization through the three days long extensive literary exchanges. Datta also spoke at a length on the importance of Praghyotishpur Literature Festival in showing a futuristic progressive path for purposeful literature in India. He spoke about the importance given to ‘writings on nature’ by this litrature festival. He encouraged the students to read, write and contribute towards the growth of nature based writings in NE India.

Speaking on the role of Nature’s Beckon, he said that the nature-writings movement led to the steady growth of writings on nature-based literature in Assam in the past four decades. Datta expressed his gratitude to all faculties and students present during the programme.
