GUWAHATI: In a coordinated effort, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) successfully intercepted and seized substantial amounts of cannabis in two separate operations conducted in the northeastern states of India. The first operation occurred at Kamakhya Railway Station in Guwahati's Maligaon area, while the second operation unfolded at Agartala Railway Station in Tripura.

In the operation, a joint team of RPF and GRP personnel collaborated to intercept a large consignment of cannabis. The operation, which took place at the Kamakhya Railway Station, resulted in the apprehension of two individuals who were subsequently charged with smuggling the illicit substance. During police interrogation, the detainees revealed their intention to transport the seized cannabis from Assam to Bihar. Further details about the operation are pending.

Meanwhile, in Tripura, GRP officials successfully seized a significant quantity of cannabis at the Agartala Railway Station. The seized consignment, weighing approximately 37 kilograms, was discovered in four bags and two sacks. It was uncovered that the smugglers had intended to transport the cannabis to different states for distribution. However, upon encountering the officials, the smugglers fled the scene.

These recent seizures come in the wake of another significant cannabis interception. Just the previous day, a substantial cannabis consignment was discovered during a routine search operation at the inter-state border shared by Assam and Tripura. The seizure highlighted the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the illegal trafficking of drugs across state lines.

The combined efforts of RPF and GRP, along with timely intelligence and rigorous operations, have thwarted attempts to smuggle large amounts of cannabis to other states for illegal distribution. The interception of significant cannabis shipments in both Guwahati and Tripura highlights the relentless efforts of authorities to combat drug smuggling. The apprehension of suspects and the disruption of their plans underscore the importance of cross-agency cooperation in maintaining the security and well-being of the region.
