Assam: Major Counterfeit Gold Bust by Police in Lakhimpur

GUWAHATI: In a significant breakthrough against counterfeit gold and fake currency operations, Lakhimpur police executed a successful raid in Assam's Bongalmora. The operation resulted in the apprehension of a prominent fake gold trader, marking a decisive step in the ongoing battle against fraudulent activities in the region.

The operation also led to the capture of two individuals from Bihar who were caught red-handed attempting to sell counterfeit gold. The suspects, known as Khazal Uddin and Aizul Islam, were promptly taken into custody by the diligent Bihpuria and Banderdewa police forces. 

According to sources, during the operation, authorities managed to seize several incriminating items, including a boat crafted for counterfeiting gold, a sum of Rs 77,000 in cash, two motorcycles presumably utilized in illegal activities, and three mobile phones believed to hold pivotal evidence. These seizures underscore the resolute determination of law enforcement agencies to curb and combat fraudulent endeavors in the area.

In a parallel development, the Mizoram Police made a significant breakthrough of their own on August 10. A joint operation, executed based on actionable intelligence, led to the apprehension of two individuals from a hotel in Lunglei. The duo was found to be in possession of three gold biscuits, weighing approximately 1 kg, 121.9 grams, and 118.91 grams.

The individuals were identified as Lalduhthlani (36) and Lalramnunpuii (40), hailing from Thenzawl. The Mizoram Police, working in tandem with the District Special Branch (DSB), promptly apprehended the suspects and confiscated the incriminating gold biscuits. Subsequently, the accused individuals and the seized evidence were transferred to the competent authorities at the Customs Department in Lunglei for further legal proceedings.

These successful law enforcement operations underscore the continued determination to root out fraudulent activities involving counterfeit gold and fake currency. Such targeted actions send a clear message that individuals engaging in such unlawful acts will face the full force of the law. As authorities collaborate across regions, the battle against financial fraud takes a significant stride forward, fostering greater confidence in the integrity of local markets and economies.
