Guwahati: Jama Masjid located in the Dholmara area was vandalized by unidentified miscreants on June 20 a result of which the situation turned hostile in the Kokrajhar district of Assam.
As per reports, the miscreants created a ruckus inside the premises of the mosque by destroying water taps and hurling stones and bricks and this resulted in the properties of the mosque incurring heavy damages.
Soon after the incident took place, a lot of people gathered at the premises of the masjid.
Meanwhile, officials of the Kokrajhar Police Station visited the site of the incident in Dholmara and took stock of the situation.
However, the police have so far not been able to ascertain the identity of the miscreants and have been unable to find out the reasons why the vandalism took place.
The police have suspected that some people who intend to create turmoil in the area have committed this act.
Meanwhile, BTR CEM Pramod Boro has expressed serious concern vis-a-vis the Dholmara Masjid incident and has instructed the district administration and police administration to launch a probe into the incident.
"The vandalisation of some materials along the masjid is a serious concern and unacceptable moment as well condemnable. The involved culprits must be identified and punishable", Boro said.
"While the ongoing flash floods have been devastating and creating havoc across the state including BTR districts since a few days ago, some anti-social elements are trying to create a troublesome and chaotic environment among the peace-loving communities which is very much condemnable and an act of anti-social activities by miscreants.We( all communities) must come forward unitedly against the anti-social elements and identify the involved miscreants who are doing the anti-social activities in the region", Boro added.
