Assam: Mass gathering of BJP held in Kokrajhar to show strength

Amid exodus of leaders of BJP one after another in Kokrajhar, a grand mass gathering was held at Green Field, Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar on Friday at the behest of Kokrajhar district BJP. Several thousands of people attended the mass gathering.

KOKRAJHAR: Amid exodus of leaders of BJP one after another in Kokrajhar, a grand mass gathering was held at Green Field, Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar on Friday at the behest of Kokrajhar district BJP. Several thousands of people attended the mass gathering.

Speaking to the crowd, BTC Chief Pramod Boro said that following the signing of the BTR accord, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kokrajhar and addressed a large mass meeting, during which he gave an assurance that mothers in the Bodoland region would no longer shed tears. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma too echoed the same and thus peace has been established in reality, he said, adding that after 40 years of violence and bloodshed, nowadays people can move anywhere at night in BTC. He said various development projects were being implemented in BTC, various schemes for education, sports, agriculture, infrastructures were launched. He also said the BJP and UPPL will field joint candidates in Kokrajhar and Darrang-Udalguri parliamentary constituencies.

Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah in his speech said the strong mass gathering in Kokrajhar has ensured that the candidates of BJP and UPPL will win with huge margins in 2024 election to make sure of Narendra Modi’s return as Prime Minister for 3rd consecutive terms to lead the nation. He said people of BTC voted for Naba Kr Sarania and made him MP for ten years who, infact, never come to his constituency to take grievances and problems of the people. He called upon all not to vote for candidate who is not available for people.

Minister Pijush Hazarika said the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma promised the people to provide Orunodoi scheme, micro finance loan to women and job to one lakh youths. These promises are being translated into reality by giving Orunodoi scheme to 27 lakh families, 86,000 youths were given job till today and micro finance loan of women were recovered by the Government, he said adding that BJP was committed to fulfil its promises. He said 18 medical colleges have been established in Assam since the last 7 years which was not done by Congress-led government in the last 70 years. He said that only Rs.18 crore was sanctioned for Water Resources department in BTC which is not at all sufficient for protection works in vast area and therefore, he pursued the government of Assam and enhanced the amount from Rs 18 crore to Rs. 300 crore.

On November 23, the secretaries of Kokrajhar district BJP Jasmin Brahma and Saburna Baruah and secretary of Kokrajhar district Mahila Marcha Dipali Brahma had quit the BJP and joined the BPF along with 495 members of BJP, UPPL and Congress on the same day. Earlier, the president of Kokrajhar district BJP Raj Kumar Brahma was dramatically removed from his position and he joined BPF on November 14. The exodus of BJP leaders and workers and joining in other parties has proved that all is not well in BJP. The leaders of BJP who quit the party had exposed the BJP’s internal attitudes towards grass root level workers and leaders.

The mass gathering was also attended by general secretary of UPPL Raju Kr Narzary, MLA Lawrence Islary, BTC EMs of BJP- Reo Reowa Narzihary, Ronendra Narzary, Arup Kumar Dey, MCLAs Sajal Kr Singha, Rajib Brahma, Suresh Tanti, MLAs Bijay Malakar and Suren Phukan and others. Earlier, the president of Kokrajhar district BJP Kabita Basumatary gave the welcome address.

On the occasion, over 100 members from various political parties including former members of the NDFB joined the BJP.
