Assam: Massive Fire Evokes In Jorhat, 150 Shops Destroyed

A total of twenty five firefighters arrived at the spot to calm the fire down, however, the situation is yet to be tranquillised.

GUWAHATI: A massive fire evoked in Assam’s Jorhat district, destroying several establishments in the area. As per the reports, the fire broke out at a market in late hours of Thursday. 

Police informed that, as many as 150 shops and businesses were damaged in the blaze. A total of twenty five firefighters arrived at the spot to calm the fire down, however, the situation is yet to be tranquillised. The episode took place in Chowk Bazar, which is in the centre of Jorhat. 

According to officials, the exactly cause of the horrifying fire is yet to be ascertained, however, it has been suspected that the fire must have occurred due to a short circuit in one of the shops which later had spread out to the nearby establishments.

Fortunately, zero casualties have been reported and no individual has been injured in the incident, as all owners and their staff had already left for home when the fire broke out.

The mostly affected businesses were clothing shops and grocery stores. Police officials also informed that, few more fire tenders were allotted in the spot of incident to tranquillise the devastating fire.

The additional firefighters were called from Titabor and Mariani town. The exact precise amount of property damage can only be determined after complete restoration of calm in the area. It is worth mentioning here that, two months back one more fire broke out in Jorhat district, in which several businesses were destroyed and gutted in the fire.The episode took place in Marwari Patty area. 

Recently, in Guwahati city, a sudden fire evoked in Silver Square Building, located in Christian Basti on 11th of February, Saturday. As per sources, the fire erupted at around 11 am in the morning. As soon as the information was received by the fire station, a team of firefighters rushed to the spot of incident and tranquillised the situation. The actual cause of fire is yet to be ascertained by concerned authorities. 

However, it has been suspected that the fire must have evoked from a vehicle that was under repair. The blaze from that particular vehicle had spread to the other parked vehicles in a blink of an eye. 

The fire reportedly broke out at the parking lot of the building and several vehicles stationed nearby got destroyed in the unfortunate episode. As per the reports, no casualties have been reported but vehicles worth lakhs of rupees were gutted down in the episode.
