Assam: Members of Nagaon Press Club stage sit-in

NAGAON: The members of Nagaon Press Club on Saturday staged a two-hour sit in protest near the office of Nagaon District Commissioner on Saturday against the alleged misbehaviour as well as assault of District Commissioner to a Guwahati scribe of a private satellite news channel inside his office chamber on Friday.

Over hundred of scribes as well as other members from various organizations of the small town participated in the stir. During the agitation, the leaders as well as the members from Nagaon Press Club strongly condemned the incident and also criticized the attitude of the District Commissioner towards the victim journalist.

The participants demanded a high-level probe into the incident and urged to ensure the security of the Journalists’ community in future too. Many among the scribes expressed their concerns over the issues related to the security of the journalists’ community and regretted saying, “How will the average person be safe in the state if journalists are not in a protected area?”

Morigaon: Morigaon Sambadik Samaj sharply reacted to the action taken by Nagaon District Commissioner and strongly condemned it. Sambadik Samaj condemned the action of the District Commissioner and appealed for justice for the journalist at Bihutoli ground where the activists of AASU, Garia-Moria Parishad also took part.
