Assam: Millet Awareness Utsav held in Bongaigaon

As a part of the celebration of the 6th Rashtriya Poshan Maah, Women & Child Development Department, Bongaigaon has initiated an innovative programme named ‘Millet Awareness Utsav’ in convergence with the Agricultural Department, Bongaigaon and in collaboration with district administration, Bongaigaon to promote and encourage community for production of millet and consumption of millet in regular food intake for better nutrition.

BONGAIGAON: As a part of the celebration of the 6th Rashtriya Poshan Maah, Women & Child Development Department, Bongaigaon has initiated an innovative programme named ‘Millet Awareness Utsav’ in convergence with the Agricultural Department, Bongaigaon and in collaboration with district administration, Bongaigaon to promote and encourage community for production of millet and consumption of millet in regular food intake for better nutrition.

As a preliminary initiative, planting of the Finger Millet program was conducted at the Mulagaon Bakharapara Model Anganwadi Centre on Thursday as ‘Model Millet Corner’ under Dangtol ICDS Project for awareness generation among the community. The programme was graced by the presence of Apal Das, the District Agriculture Officer, Bongaigaon, Rabin Das, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Bongaigaon, and others.

During the programme, District Agriculture Officer, Bongaigaon elaborated the importance and nutrition benefits of millet for pregnant women, lactating mothers as well as community people for making a healthy life cycle, and also the role of millets to reduce malnutrition among children. Gradually, this initiative will be continued to the other Anganwadi centres also.
