MORIGAON: A special initiative to create awareness about the benefits of millet for school children in Assam under the Assam Millet Mission 2023-24 was organized by Morigaon District Agriculture Office on Saturday. The day-long awareness programme began with cutting of the red-ribbon by Morigaon District Commissioner Devashish Sharma in presence of DAO and officers. While inaugurating the programme, the District Commissioner said that efforts were being made to create awareness about the benefit of millets among the students. He said, “The dietary fibre of millet would surely benefit the students. He also advised the attended students to consume millet as food.
The programme was moderated by the District Agriculture Officer Ashok Kumar Sharma. The District Commissioner and the District Agriculture Officer distributed various food items made from millet like laddu, pitha, chocolate etc. among the students. In addition, millet expert Dipshikha Gogoi explained the various types of millets and the healthy food products made from millet and its benefits to the students. The event was moderated by Junior Agriculture Officer Dibyajyoti Hazarika. Assistant Director of Agriculture Tapan Kumar Brahma and concerned officers and employees of the agriculture department were present at the function.
