Assam: Millet product ‘Sri Bhumi’ launched by Northwest Jorhat FPC

JORHAT: NABARD Jorhat on Thursday organized a Bankers’ Sensitization meet on the occasion of the International Year of Millet, where various banks, scientists from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, officials from PACS/ GPSS, Farmers’ Producer Company (FPC) from Jorhat and Majuli along with many Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), SHGs, NGOs and farmers participated.

Mantu Das, District Development Manager (DDM) NABARD, Jorhat and Majuli in his inaugural speech welcomed all the participants and briefed about the objective of the programme and the importance of credit linkage of JLGs/ SHGs with banks for their entrepreneurship development. He spoke about NABARD various interventions under farm and off farm sector during the last year in the form of various livelihood activities and particularly the Model Millet Project in Jorhat through Northwest Jorhat FPC, supported by NABARD.

On this occasion, with the brand name ‘Sri Bhumi’, a millet product from NABARD’s Millet project was launched by the Northwest Jorhat FPC. The Assam Co-Operative Apex Bank Ltd, Jorhat Branch for the first time started financing NABARD’s livelihood programme beneficiaries of JLGs and handed over the sanction letters to them through the dignitaries. A unique model of financing of KCC to farmers through FPC has taken place under the guidance of DDM NABARD Jorhat where Madhurjya Buragohain, Branch Manager, Assam Co-Operative Apex Bank Ltd, Jorhat sanctioned the KCC loans to farmer-members of the FPC.
