Assam: Miscreants Drug Driver and Steal Vehicle

RANGIYA: In an incident of car robbery, a driver of a vehicle was drugged and the car was stolen after he lost consciousness by people posing as customers. The incident took place in the Rangiya region of Assam on Thursday.

According to reports, the incident took place near the Rangiya Railway Station. Three miscreants posing as customers had hired the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire vehicle bearing registration number AS 19 M 8515 from Bongaigaon and they stopped for food at the Subham Hotel in Rangiya.

Nripen Chandra Das aged 45 years, the driver, who is a resident of Dhaligoan, near Ganesh Mandir, was recovered by Rangiya Police and Railway Protection Force personnel from the Subham Hotel in an unconscious state. He was immediately shifted to a private medical facility in the vicinity. Meanwhile, the miscreants had fled with the stolen vehicle and a search is underway regarding the same.

Meanwhile, in a proactive move against drug trafficking, Assam's Hajo Police Station, led by Inspector Nabajit Nath, orchestrated a successful operation that led to the seizure of a substantial consignment of drugs. During the operation, which took place the previous night, law enforcement officials detained two individuals and discovered approximately 20 kilograms of cannabis in their possession. The estimated value of the seized cannabis in the illegal market was reported to be around Rs 2 lakhs.

The operation unfolded at the residence of Kamal Deka in the Bagta Bechimari region, based on received intelligence. Law enforcement officers uncovered and confiscated the stash of 20 kilograms of cannabis, which had been hidden at the location. Consequently, Kamal Deka, the occupant of the residence, was taken into custody. Another individual involved in the peddling of cannabis, Ratul Deka from Japia in Hajo, was also apprehended. Hajo Police promptly lodged a case and initiated a thorough investigation into the matter to dismantle the drug network further.
