Sentinel Digital Desk

GUWAHATI: On Monday in the Kahilipara area of Guwahati, two miscreants shockingly stole a gold necklace from a woman's neck in broad daylight. The event was captured on a nearby CCTV camera.

Two bike-riding males chase the victim in the video and rob her of her chain. Later, the two escaped the area on their bike. "A single rider arrived first, scouted the area, and selected the ideal location for the crime. It was simpler for the chain snatchers to escape after performing the crime because the region is rather remote and few people visit it at this time”, informed the Odalbakra Police. The Odalbakra Police is currently looking for the offenders.

The Guwahati Police in the month of January detained two suspected chain snatchers who allegedly threatened a women with guns amid an increase in cases of the crime. Throughout the city, chain snatching instances are becoming more frequent.

There is fear among the female population as a result of the chain-snatchers' preference for women. Infractions of chain stealing have been reported often in recent months. The Paltan Bazar Police had discovered two suspects connected to cases of chain snatching in the interim.

Sources claim that while committing the crime, the snatchers threatened the women with a toy pistol. Following a police check, the suspects, Rajiv Ali and Raju, were detained in Guwahati's Lachit Nagar neighbourhood. They also had a toy firearm, which was found.

On Monday night, a large fire started in one of the Central Clinical Laboratory's rooms at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. According to Dr. Abhijit Sharma, Superintendent of Guwahati Medical College, "the fire broke out in a room of the Central Clinical Laboratory on the first floor of the old building of the government-run hospital. We evacuated all of our patients, therefore nobody was hurt”.

Four fire tenders were called in to put out the blaze after the GMCH administration quickly notified the fire department about the occurrence. Later, the firefighters managed to stabilise the situation. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but an investigation will be carried out to discover it.
