Assam: Miscreants Stab Woman Lawyer To Death In Barpeta

Barpeta: In an unfortunate incident, three unidentified miscreants stabbed a woman lawyer to death at Bilortari Hati in Barpeta town in lower Assam Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Rinima Begum and she was a resident of Banbariya village, which is situated around 8 km from Barpeta town.

As per reports, the incident unraveled, when Rinima paid a visit to her elder sister's house at Azad Nagar in Barpeta town.

The incident took place when Rinima along with her sister went to consult a doctor at a clinic in Barpeta town. Three-bike-borne miscreants attacked Rinima with a sharp weapon when she was just about to get into the clinic.

An injured Rinima was immediately rushed to the Barpeta Medical College & Hospital in a serious condition but unfortunately, it was too late and she was declared dead by the doctors.

The exact reason behind this murder has not yet been discovered. Meanwhile, the perpetrators managed to escape after committing this heinous crime.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that the crime rate in Assam has dropped by 30 percent this year as compared to the previous year. 

Responding to a query during the ongoing budget session of the State legislative Assembly, Sarma mentioned "In comparison to the previous year, crime has reduced by 30% in the state this year. In January 2021, a total of 8661 cases were reported to the state's police stations, with the number of cases falling to 7706 in January of the current year. In February 2021, the state had 8941 cases, which has fallen to 5425 in February this year."
