Assam: Mitra Sanga Puja in Dibrugarh to showcase eco-friendly theme

DIBRUGARH: Like every year, this year too Mitra Sangha Puja has taken up eco-friendly theme for Durga Puja. This time Mitra Sangha will celebrate their 42nd puja and the committee members are taking all possible measures for the smooth conduct of the puja. Speaking to The Sentinel, Lakhikanta Maity, artisan from West Bengal’s East Midnapore district said, “For last 40 years we are doing work in Mitra Sangha. Like previous years, this time also we are preparing the pandal. The pandal is made up with all eco-friendly material. The pandal is made up with tree leaves. The pandal’s theme is ‘Shanka’ and the upper part of the crown will feature ‘Sudharshan Chakra’. Our workers are working day and night to complete the work in time,”.

Mitra Sangha Durga Puja in Dibrugarh is known for crowd pulling because everytime they come up with innovative and eco-friendly themes. “Every year, we choose themes that resonate with people and the times. We have won several awards for eco-friendly themes. This year, our puja is based on eco-friendly theme. To make the people aware about the environmental issues, we have taken up the theme. Every year huge crowds gather in our puja pandal and praise our themes and our work,” said Sandeep Tulsyan, secretary of Mitra Sangha Puja Committee.

He said, “We will also portray Draupadi’s Vastraharan story from Mahabharat in our puja pandal. We want to showcase women atrocities in the society. Everyday women’s faces harassment in the society. So, we have decided that this time we will portray Draupadi Vastraharan story from Mahabharat. We will also showcase the ill effects of gambling in our society.”

“Our puja pandal will be inaugurated on Thursday at 6 p.m. This time we are bringing women Dhakis from Bengal who will play traditional Dhaks during the puja. We are expecting more crowd this time,” Tulsyan said.
