JAMUGURIHAT: Along with the rest of the country, Independence Day was celebrated in the Sonitpur district as well. Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from Sootea, Padma Hazarika housed the Indian Flag in Jamugurihat.

This Independence Day celebration was organised at the zonal office of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Naduar of Jamugurihat under the Sootea Constituency. Padma Hazarika attended the 77th Independence Day celebration organised on the morning of Tuesday.

The elected representative remembered the martyrs of the freedom struggle in his speech and spoke about their contributions towards making the country independent. He also said that all Indians should take a pledge under the flag to protect the country from any threat. He also called for establishing unity among all the ethnic groups and communities of the country and strengthening the connection between all groups.

People from over 10 gaon panchayats, Naduar municipality and many more local people took part in this celebration.

Meanwhile, the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled ambitious plans for comprehensive administrative reforms during his address at the 77th Independence Day Celebrations held at the Khanapara Veterinary Field in Guwahati. Amidst a gathering that included Cabinet Ministers, Kamrup (Metro) DC Pallav Gopal Jha, Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah, and other dignitaries, the chief minister outlined a series of transformative changes slated to reshape the state's administrative landscape within a remarkably short span of one month.

The foremost and perhaps the most striking among these reforms is the abolition of the sub-division system across the state. Chief Minister Sarma emphatically stated that the existing sub-division structure would be replaced by the establishment of sub-districts within each constituency. This structural shift seeks to decentralize administrative functions, potentially enhancing governance efficiency and citizen access to services.

In addition to this radical change, the chief minister also announced that districts that have been merged with other existing districts would undergo a thorough review, with a decision about their future determined within the following two months. This indicates a keen commitment to streamlining administrative boundaries and structures for improved governance outcomes.
