Assam: Motorcycle Rider Dead After Collision With Cattle Smugglers’ Vehicle

The victim was reportedly critically injured in the accident and he died on his way to the hospital.

DHUBRI: In an accident that took place on Friday night, a vehicle trying to smuggle cattle in a passenger vehicle encountered with an accident leading to the death of a motorcycle rider. The incident took place near the Gauripur Supermarket in the Dhubri district of the state.

According to reports, the miscreants were trying to smuggle three cattle heads in a Tata Indica Passenger vehicle when they hit a motorcycle. A local resident named Aquib Ahmed was reportedly critically injured in the accident and he died on his way to the hospital. He was a resident of the Sagolchara locality of Dhubri.

Meanwhile, one of the miscreants was injured in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment at the Dhubri Medical College and Hospital while the other reportedly fled the scene after the incident.

It was mentioned that the miscreants were on their way to deliver the cattle to some unknown buyer when they met with the accident. Also, the cattle inside the vehicle suffered severe injuries in the accident and were moved to a veterinary hospital for medical care and shelter.

A few days back, the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Meghalaya rescued 88 cattle from allegedly being smuggled into Bangladesh through the international border in the East Khasi Hills district of the state. Acting on a tip-off, vigilant troops of 110 Bn BSF Meghalaya confiscated 58 buffaloes brutally crammed into two trucks from Ichamati- Shela Road, East Khasi Hills, on Saturday, BSF Meghalaya stated. "These buffaloes were being taken to the international border for smuggling to Bangladesh," BSF Meghalaya further said. The seized cattle and vehicles have been handed over to the concerned Police station for further legal action. Enhanced vigilance by the BSF on the international border has led to the seizure of more than 2000 cattle from different border areas of Meghalaya since January 2023. Around 24 people have been arrested for allegedly being involved in 'cattle smuggling'.
