Assam: Murder accused Sambhu Kahar alias Shil of Kokrajhar arrested

KOKRAJHAR: Murder accused Sambhu Kahar alias Shil of Kokrajhar who recently killed a retired engineer of Kokrajhar was arrested by Kokrajhar police on November 30 from Koochbehar town under Katowali police station in West Bengal. He was brought to Kokrajhar police station on Friday.

One Tapan Chakraborty (70), a retired engineer of Agriculture department and his wife Madhumita Chakraborty (65) who was also a retired Headmistress of DN Himmatsingka High School, were attacked with sharp weapons on November 29 early morning at Bidhanpalli in Kokrajhar town. Tapan Chakraborty, who received a serious cut injury near his mouth, succumbed to his injuries on his way to hospital. The condition of Madhumita Chakraborty was too critical but she is now stable.

Talking to reporters, the Additional SP of Kokrajhar-Prithiraj Rajkhowa said Sambhu Kahar, alias Shil, the murder accused of Tapan Chakraborty was arrested from Koochbehar town under Katowali Police Station in West Bengal on November 30 and brought to Kokrajhar on Friday. He said Sambhu had admitted his crime on November 29 in the preliminary investigation. He said Sambhu hailed from Koochbehar town under Katowali PS and he stayed in Kokrajhar for a long time as a wage earner. He also said he was connected with various robbery cases as per reports in the preliminary investigation and various angles are being looked into. He was arrested based on case no 396/2023 U/S 448/326/307/302/380 IPC at Kokrajhar police station.
