BOKAJAN: Amidst the nationwide lockdown and the restrictions on the inter-State movement of people, Assam has opened its inter-State boundaries to allow entry of people who are stranded in the six neighbouring States of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Manipur.
Hundreds of migrant workers and people who were stuck in Dimapur, the commercial hub of Nagaland, breathed a sigh of relief as they entered Assam through the New Field check-post at Lahorijan over NH-39 and Dillai Gate over NH-36 in Karbi Anglong. However, the Nagaland border will continue to remain sealed and the lockdown norms will remain in force.
The Assam Police have arranged for health check-ups of returnees and have ensured that all returnees are thoroughly screened before entry into the State. "A total of 267 people entered Assam through Karbi Anglong on Sunday," said Bokajan SDPO John Das.
