Assam: Narcotics Seized and Two Arrested in Charges of Peddling Contraband

The officials from Sadiya Police and Dhola Police undertook a joint operation in the Doomdoma District.

DOOMDOOMA: Dhola Police have been able to arrest two persons accused of peddling drugs. They were also able to recover narcotics from their possession during a search carried out at the premises of their residence.

According to local sources, the officials from Sadiya Police and Dhola Police undertook a joint operation in the Doomdoma District. The operation was led by the Police Circle Officer from Sadiya Subhash Das and the Officer in Charge of the Dhola Police Station Debashish Dekari. The operation was carried out in the Bormura Miripathar village of the Doomdooma district.

During this operation, the team was able to arrest two people named Deepjyoti Sonwal aged thirty-eight years and Kamal Jyoti Sonowal aged thirty-four years. Both were arrested from their rented accommodation in the Bormura Miripathar village. A total of 11.5 grams of contraband heroin was also recovered from the residence on a proper search. Necessary legal action has been proceeded with by the authorities after the arrest of the duo.

Based on intelligence input, another joint anti-drugs operation was launched by Golaghat Police with Karbi Anglong Police. During the operation at Khakrajan Check Post under Barpathar Police Station (Karbi Anglong), one Mahindra XUV 500 vehicle bearing registration No. AS- 01BD/2314 was intercepted. In search of the vehicle, a total of 1.850 kg of suspected morphine was recovered from the spare wheel of the vehicle.

The value of the seized drugs will be around Rs. 92 lakhs. In this connection, two persons have been arrested. They are Akum Chang (59 yrs), S/O Latr Thongbong, R/O Rongmei Colony, PS: East PS, Dimapur, Nagaland, Ongbou Chang (45 yrs), S/O Cholen Chang, R/O Borlengri, Block 1, PS: Khatkhati, Dist: Karbi Anglong. The operation was carried out by Additional SP (Crime), Golaghat along with SDPO, Bokajan, OC Golaghat PS and OC Barpathar PS(KA) with staff. A case has been registered. Further investigation is going on.
