Assam: National Unity Day celebrated across State

LAKHIMPUR: In honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the ‘Iron Man of India’, his birth anniversary was celebrated as ‘National Unity Day’ in Lakhimpur district too on Tuesday along with the rest of the nation.

In this connection, Lakhimpur district administration organized ‘Run for Unity’ at 6.30 am. Started from North Lakhimpur Circuit House premises, the Run for Unity was flagged off by Lakhimpur District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan. District Development Commissioner Utpal Borah, ASPs Jayanta Baruah and Lobo Kumar Deka, District Sports Officer Sami Saikia along the students of the schools and colleges of the district, members of various sports organizations, officers and personnel of the Police Department, officials of the Sports Department took part in the Run for Unity. Then the Police Department and 13th Assam Police Battalion, Lilabari conducted a ‘Unity Parade’ programme. In connection with the event, ‘Swearing-in Ceremony’ was organized in each and every office of the government departments in the district to take pledge on national unity.

As per directive of the Union Government, ‘National Unity Week’ was also celebrated in Lakhimpur district from October 25 to October 31 in connection with the National Unity Day. To celebrate the week, the government departments in the district organized various programmes to honor Vallabhbhai Patel.

TINSUKIA: The week-long observance of National Unity Week concluded on Tuesday at Tinsukia with march-past paraded through main roads of Tinsukia town which was participated by 2 AP Bn, Tinsukia police, CRPF and other security forces. On the occasion of Rastriya Ekta Diwas commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Tinsukia police organised Run for Unity on Monday morning. The run was flagged off jointly by Sanjoy Kishan Minister for Labour and Abhijit Gurav, Superintendent of Police Tinsukia. The District Jail also observed Rastriya Ekta Diwas with the inmates of the jail in which senior journalist Amalya Khatoniar deliberated on the significance of the day. The Superintendent of Tinsukia Jail Utpal Duwarah and Jailer Prabin Tamuli were present besides jail staff. The programme also witnessed presentation of patriotic songs by two inmates.

DHUBRI: National Unity Day was organized by Dhubri Mid Town Branch unit of Marwari Yuva Manch in the Run for Unity programme in the city .It was organized by Dhubri district administration. Former president of the Manch, Ranjita Dhanawat said that first time the organization organized the programme. Mid Town Branch president Rita Mittal honoured Dhubri District Commissioner, Dibakar Nath in the rally with a Phoolan Gamosa.

The Deputy Commissioner flagged off the rally. In the run, chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board, Dr. Debamoy Sanyal, Independent Director of Neepco, Bimal Oswal, BJP Kisan Morcha District President and Ward Commissioner of Ward No. 5, Amit Dhanawat, members of Marwari Yuva Manch, Mid Town branch, Mamta Aggarwal, Parbati Swami and many other members took part in the programme.

KOKRAJHAR: The National Unity Day was celebrated with a two-day programme by the Kokrajhar administration in Kokrajhar on Monday and Tuesday. On the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, a run for unity was organized in Kokrajhar town on Monday and pledge for national unity on Tuesday. On the occasion, Kokrajhar SP Puspraj Singh inspected the guard of honour of police contingents at Kokrajhar Government HS & MP school playground and administered the pledge for National Unity to police personnel and VDP. The programme was also attended by ADC and other police officers.

GORESWAR: The Tamulpur district administration had observed the National Unity Day on Tuesday. The National Unity Day which was introduced by the Government of India in 2014 to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who had a major role in the political integration of India. In this connection, the Tamulpur administration organized an oath taking programme in the conference hall of the District Commissioner office. The HoDs of various line departments, officers and staff of DC office took part in the oath taking programme. The district administration organized an event ‘Run for Unity’ from DC office campus to Motonga Chowk of Tamulpur which was formally flagged off by the local MLA, Jolen Daimary. The ‘Run for Unity’ was organized with a view to foster and reinforce the dedication to preserve and strengthen unity and integrity of the nation. Hemant Kumar Rabha, MCLA of BTR , District Commissioner Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Yadav attended the programme among others.

DOOMDOOMA: National Unity Day was also celebrated at Chapakhowa, the headquarter town of Saditya Sub district, on Tuesday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Iron man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. For that a procession was taken out from Krishti Sangha to Chapakhowa public playground under the joint initiative of the civil and police administration of the Sub district. Police, CRPF personnel, NCC cadets and the students and teachers of Sadiya college and various other educational institutions of the Sub district took part in the programme. Additional District Commissioner (ADC) Manash Jyoti Nath besides flagging off the procession, administered the oath of National Unity Day to all present there.

The event was also attended by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arunima Bhuyan, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mani Mohan Koch and various officers and employees of the police department.

NAGAON: Nagaon district police administration, cadets from 8 Assam Battalion, NCC, Nagaon also observed the birth anniversary of Iron man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Divas’. On occasion of the day, district police administration organized a match past, ‘Run for Unity’ throughout the small town. Over 150 NCC cadets from various educational institutions under supervision of Colonel Amar Singh SM participated in the march past with much zeal and enthusiasm. SP Navaneet Mahanta spearheaded the march past where NCC cadets from ADP College, Nagoan, Nagaon Govt Boys’ HS School, Nowgong College, Haibargaon High School and NCC officials of the educational institutions like Jalin Chetia, Saiful Islam, Siddique Ali as well as other police officers and citizens took part.

Meanwhile Kendriya Vidyalaya, Misa Military Station also observed the day as ‘Rastriya Ekta Divas’ here at its premise today. The programme was initiated with lightning the earthen lamp at the portrait of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel by the principal of the school PK Sarma. The teachers’ fraternity as well as students of the school also paid floral tribute to the great leader of the country. Pledge on unity was carried out by all during the morning assembly of the school. A ‘run for unity’ was also organized in which students, teaching as well as non teaching staff participated. PK Sarma, principal of the school flagged off the unity run. While addressing the occasion, principal Sarma presented a brief note on life and contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel asserting that such programme is essential for unity, integrity and development of the country so well.
