Assam: NEEPCO Employee's Fingers Ripped Off While On Duty

The employee of the electrical branch at the hydro project identified as 36-year-old Thoi Khelma lost four fingers of his left hand after he met with an accident on duty.

GUWAHATI: In an unfortunate incident in Assam's Dima Hasao, a NEEPCO worker got severely injured and lost four fingers of his left hand after he met with an accident on duty.

The incident took place on Friday 22 April in the Umrangso town area which is in the Dima Hasao district of Assam.

The injured person has been identified as Thoi Khelma, a 36-year-old employee of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) at Umrangso.

According to reports, Khelma met with an accident during the afternoon hours on Friday while he was on duty when his four of his fingers were cut off by a crane.

Khelma who is an employee of the electrical department at the hydro project lost all his fingers in his left hand except the thumb because of the crane involved in the project work.

Khelma was immediately taken by the locals to the Community Health Centre in Umrangso for immediate medical attention as per reports.

But as his condition was severe, he was later shifted to the GMCH (Guwahati Medical College and Hospital) for further advanced medical treatment.

Doctors at the Umrangso Community Health Centre informed that there is no threat associated with Khelma's life and it is expected that he will recover soon.

They added he will be fine, however, as the victim lost four of his fingers will face certain difficulties in doing his regular work or professional work.

It may be mentioned that a high risk of life and injuries is associated with the employees working in electrical departments.

The workers of the electric departments in different regions often met with such accidents on duty in which they sustain severe injuries.
