Guwahati: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday said that it had recently carried out raids at two locations in Assam's Kamrup district, in connection with the Maoist terror case.
As per media reports, an official spokesperson of the NIA said that the case pertains to the arrest of Maoist leader and CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee and Assam State Organizing Committee member Akash Orang by the Assam Police in Cachar district in March.
Bhattacharjee was arrested in March from a tea garden also known as 'Kanchan Da'.
Bhattacharjee's (72) task was to set up a state-level committee of CPI (Maoist) in Assam and a "red corridor" from a neighboring country to other Maoist-affected states of India such as Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The accused along with their other associates were involved in spreading the network of CPI(Maoist) in Assam and Northeast region.
The NIA took up the matter on March 16.
An NIA official said that during the raids conducted on Friday, the documents proving guilty were seized and further investigation is underway.
