PATHSALA: Thirty-five-year-old Niranjan Malakar, who allegedly killed his 11-day-old infant and buried the body near the bank of the Bisannala River in Dubi-Malipara village, has been arrested by Bajali police.

As per reports, Malakar allegedly planned to sell his 11-day old daughter for Rs 4 lakh with the help of a doctor after the baby was born. However, family members intervened and he was unable to sell the baby.

While speaking to the media after his arrest, Malakar said, “I didn’t kill my daughter. I was badly beaten by my two brothers-in-law and father-in-law and I went into hiding. I was not involved in selling my daughter for money.”

Family members said that Malakar had told them that he had received Rs 4 lakh from a wealthy couple with the assistance of Dr Diganta Choudhury. However, when contacted, Dr Choudhury said, “I don’t know about any financial deal. After the couple decided for an abortion in the sixth month of pregnancy, I advised them not to so and instead give their child to some family which does not have any children.”

Bajali police are investigating the case.
