Assam: North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) conducts field study

Lakhimpur: The Department of Assamese, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) and Jonai Higher Secondary School jointly organized a field study programme and seminar in Jonai subdivision of Dhemaji district with a two-day long programme on Thursday and Friday. The events were organized on 'The Cultural Heritage and Potential of Ecotourism in Jonai of Assam and Pasighat of Arunachal Pradesh'.

On Thursday, the seminar, held in Jonai Higher Secondary School, was chaired by Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa, the Head of the Department of Assamese, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous). Principal-in charge of Jonai HS School, Paramananda Darig delivered the welcome address. Environmental activist-cum-columnist Toseswar Miri Agarwala, attending the event as a resource person, threw light on the geographical and political history of Jonai. In his deliberation, he also made an analysis on the demographic diversity and unique natural environment of Jonai. "Jonai has enough potential to be a hub for ecotourism. But public consciousness is the primary requirement for it," Agarwala said.

Another resource person, Royal Pegu, a prominent journalist and a writer, delivered his lecture on the prospects and problems of cultural ecotourism in Jonai. Professors of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Dr. Hemanta Sarmah, Munmi Dutta, Dr. Dhiraj Pator, Asim Saikia and Jonai HS School teacher Binita Gogoi also took part in the seminar.

In the same programme, the Department of Assamese, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) extended a bundle of books to Jonai HS School as part of the 'Movement of Reading Book'. On the other hand, Royal Pegu presented a bundle of books related to Jonai to the North Lakhimpur College team. On both days, a group of 60 persons from the both academic institutions conducted field studies in Poba Reserve Forest and various places under Pasighat area in connection with ecotourism.
