Assam: North Lakhimpur College Book Fair concludes

LAKHIMPUR: The 6th North Lakhimpur College Book Fair, which commenced from October 9 and received inspiring response from book lovers, concluded with success on Monday. During the course of the 8-day long event, a good number of readers thronged the book fair venue at the college campus.

On the seventh day of the book fair, a lecture event in connection with the death centenary of Sir Asutosh Mukhopadhyay, a nationally acclaimed academician, who was fond of Assam, was held. The lecture was delivered by Kolkata based literary figure Basudev Das. It was followed by a Kabi Sanmilan, which was chaired by noted poet Rajiv Borah of Sivsagar. Almost thirty poets recited their poems in the programme, wherein popular cine actor Jatin Borah also shared his thought. As resource person, poet Dr. Pranay Phukan attended an event titled as ‘My Journey as Poet’ held on October 14. The quiz competition and speech competition, organized in the book fair this year among the secondary level students, received appreciation from the public. Similarly, the college level students showed their admirable talents in a highly standard book criticism competition titled as ‘Kitap Aru Alap’.

On the concluding day of the book fair, a national level seminar on ‘The life and works of Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya’ was held in connection with the birth centenary of the first and foremost Jnanpeeth winner of the State.
