DIBRUGARH: Uncontrolled gas with well fluids, mainly water, is gushing out from OIL’s (Oil India Limited) well no. NHK 67, following the stealing of a Christmas tree by miscreants on October 19.
According to sources, miscreants had completely cut and stolen the Christmas tree above the adapter of the OIL well located at the depleted reservoir at Gazal Basti near Bordubi in the Duliajan area. The well, OIL sources claimed, was shut since 2016. However, as a result of miscreants’ activities, OIL’s Crisis Management Team came into action and rushed to the site. The fire tenders were also stationed at the incident site to meet any eventuality.
All efforts are being initiated by OIL on an emergent basis to cap the well. An on-site task force is coordinating the activities of different technical groups. Meanwhile, the OIL authority has lodged an FIR with the local police and informed the district administration about the development.
