Guwahati: A divorce petition has reportedly been filed by Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain against her husband in a family court in Guwahati.

Boxer Lovlina filed the divorce petition against her husband Nabanit Goswami in the Kamrup (M) family court.

The 24-year-old boxer from Assam had tied the knot with her longtime lover Nabanit Goswami of Jorhat back in 2018 after the duo shared a longtime relationship.

The reason behind the divorce is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, Lovlina Borgohain clinched the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in the women's welterweight event, thereby becoming only the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics.

She happens to be the first female athlete and the second boxer from Assam to represent the state in the Olympics.

The boxer was conferred with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2020 and she became only the sixth person from the state to have achieved this milestone.

Following her success at the Tokyo Olympics, the Assam government appointed her to the post of Deputy Superintendent of police. She was also awarded the Assam Sourav Award.

The government of India had also felicitated her with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award.

She was recently selected for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Earlier last month, International Boxing Association (IBA) announced that Lovlina Borgohain has received the highest number of votes during the election held at the 2022 Women's World Championships and has therefore been elected as the chair and a voting member on the Board of Directors for the IBA's Athletes' Committee.
