Assam: One Held For Illegal Trade Of Deer Meat In Bijni

GUWAHATI: A person has been detained from the Chirang district of Assam for his involvement in the illegal trade of deer meat on February 17.

The person has been identified as Abin Narzary who hails from the Ladanguri area in Bijni located in the Chirang district of Assam.

Abin was nabbed from the Kumarisali region in Bijni by a team of SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal). The team arrested him based on specific inputs following certain leads.

It is reported that the accused has been involved in the illegal business and supply of deer meat in Bijni.

The team of SSB recovered 17 kilograms of suspected deer meat from the possession of the accused after he was arrested on Thursday. He had brought the 17 kg deer meat to sell in the locality as informed by sources.

The group of Sashastra Seema Bal interrogated the man to find out other information in relation to the illegal sale of deer meat.

During the interrogation Abin revealed about another consignment of deer meat and as per his statement officials carried out a raid at the residence of a man named Budang Brahma in Bijni.

In the house of Bharma, another delivery of 3 kilograms of meat was found which was seized. However, Brahma managed to run away from the spot and the team failed to detain him.

SSB team later received confirmed information that proves Brahma to be the main person and supplier behind the trade of deer meat which is illegal.

Along with deer meat, the officials also seized some matches, a weighing scale and knives used in the illegal activity. All the seized items have been sent to the forest department by the SSB team.
