Assam: One Held On Charges Of Cyber Crime, 21 ATM Card Seized

GUWAHATI: Assam police detained one person on allegations of cyber fraud in the Bongaigaon district on March 21 as part of a successful crackdown on the state's escalating number of cyberfraud cases.

Golam Murtaza, the arrested individual, is a Malda, West Bengal, inhabitant. Police conducted a search and seized a mobile phone, cash, and more than 21 ATM cards from different banks.

Statewide police continue to tighten up on cybercriminals. A case has been filed against the person who was arrested, and more investigation is ongoing to find out whether there are any other connections to the case.

On March 18, Morigaon Police detained two people, among them a lady, on suspicion of engaging in cyber fraud and defrauding people by advertising false loans online. A man from Delhi lost Rs 26 lakh to the duo, Jiyabur Rahman and Kohinoor Akhtara, who were detained.

Following a raid by Assistant Superintendent of Police Samiran Baishya of the Crime Branch, Morigaon Police, the suspects were taken into custody. According to police records, the accused pair deceived customers through phony internet loan applications.

Recently, Assam police nabbed three cyber criminals in Moirabari in Morigaon district on February 24. A few offensive objects were also taken from their possession.

The infamous cybercriminals were captured after the Morigaon police carried out a search operation in Xogunbari on Friday night. The arrested cybercriminals have been named as Ishaque Ali, Rabbul Islam, and Gyass Uddin.

The three suspects reside in Moirabari, a Xogunbari community. 11 mobile phones, a Pulsar bike with the license plate AS-02A-H5609, and a total of 1,720 SIM cards were confiscated from them. The police started their search efforts after receiving specific information. The evening-started search activities went on until 12 in the morning.
