Assam: One More Held For Attack On APDCL Officials In Dhubri, Taking Total To 7

On Monday morning, police managed to nab one more accused identified as Abdul Gani from the Lalkura locality, adjacent to Gauripur.

DHUBRI: With strict instructions issued by Assam Director General of Police GP Singh to apprehend the culprits, the Dhubri police have till now managed to nab seven key accused involved in the assault of APDCL employees in Gauripur.

On Monday morning, police managed to nab one more accused identified as Abdul Gani from the Lalkura locality, adjacent to Gauripur.

A team of police personnel from Balajan police outpost launched an operation under the lead of station in-charge Purushottam Singh and picked up the accused Abdul Gani from the area mentioned.

The backdrop to the police action is the brutal assault last Friday by suspected power (electricity) thieves on the sub-divisional officer (SDO) of Dhubri’s Gauripur Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) office, along with a few of his officials.

The badly injured APDCL official Monjurul Haque, along with his team, had reportedly launched an operation against persons involved in power theft at Balajan, under Gauripur police station.

The other APDCL employees who were reportedly injured in the incident were Mohidul Haque and Rafiqul Haque.

In the wake of the incident, Assam Director General of police (DGP) GP Singh later informed that so far three persons have been arrested in connection to the case. He also took to twitter saying, “Not a single culprit would be spared who assaults a government officer on duty,” instructing the Dhubri police to take lawful action against the perpetrators.

On Saturday night, the Dhubri police, inspired by the words of the DGP, managed to apprehend one more accused in connection to the physical assault case of the APDCL employees. The operation to arrest the culprit was carried out under the leadership of Gauripur police station, officer-in-charge Debajit Sarma.

The accused arrested on Saturday was identified as Ashraf Ali. The police informed that Ali was arrested from Dharmashala locality,.

Till Saturday, six people were arrested by the Assam police and the hunt was on to nab the other.
