SILCHAR: Following the death of one minor girl, two persons involved in the crime of gang-raping two school girls have been arrested for their dastardly act in Hailakandi district of Assam.
It was even more shocking in the condemnable incident that one of the raped girls was critically injured and died while being shifted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).
The incident was reported to have taken place on Tuesday.
The two criminals arrested for their alleged horrific act have been identified as Javed Ahmed Barbhuiya and Ansar Uddin.
Reports said that the two accused enlisted the help of a few other people and allegedly kidnapped the two students at around 11 am on Tuesday. They then forcibly took the minor girls in a car to a jungle nearby, where they reportedly raped them.
On receiving a complaint, a team of policemen swung into action and launched an investigation, which resulted in the rescue of the two girls.
However, during the night, there was deterioration in the condition of one of the battered girls, following which she was taken to Hailakandi Civil Hospital. The doctors there considered her condition as serious and referred her to the SMCH.
Tragically, she died on the way while being taken to SMCH. The body was later handed over to the girl's family after post mortem was conducted. The condition of the other girl is reportedly stable.
On the strength of their investigation, the police arrested Javed Ahmed Barbhuiya and Ansar Uddin on Tuesday night, the investigating police officer informed.
Police sources disclosed that the matter was being probed further and a manhunt has been launched to nab the other culprits.
In a similar case on Monday (June 5), a 13-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district died after being allegedly gang-raped by three persons, including a minor. The family of the victim alleged that one of the accused is a local BJP leader. According to the Basti district BJP chief, however, the accused person was removed for his “anti-party" activities from the Kisan Morcha of the BJP in 2021.
One of the accused rapists is a 14-year-old while the other two aged 23 and 24 respectively. All of the accused in the dastardly case were apprehended by the police.
A senior police officer informed that the victim’s cause of death in the post-mortem examination was revealed to be “shock antemortem injury."
According to the statement of the girl’s father, she had left the house to buy vegetables but was waylaid and abducted by the three accused criminals on her way back home. The accused allegedly raped her and then abandoned her dead body at a deserted place after she succumbed to her injuries.
