Assam: Over 3300 Counterfeit Watches Recovered in Guwahati

Assam police were carrying out an investigation based on the complaint lodged by a representative of Titan.

GUWAHATI: Caring out an investigation regarding the sale of counterfeit watches, Guwahati Police was able to capture a large consignment of watches. A total of six people were also arrested in this regard.

Assam Police tweeted, “Crime Branch of City Police raided 2 shops - Bardhan Time at SS Road & Choudhury Watch at Lakhtokia - & seized 3,330 counterfeit watches of many well-known brands. 6 persons - Kishore Choudhary, Ranjit Paul, Ranjit Sutradhar, Pritam Roy, Sujit Das, & Rupak Baidya - were arrested.”

Assam Police took necessary action based on a complaint lodged by Gaurav Tiwari, Advocate authorized representative of Titan Company Ltd. regarding unauthorised selling, manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit brand products of Titan watch i.e. Sonata, Titan, Fastrack in the Pan Bazar area of the city. A raid was conducted in two shops and godowns including Bardhan Time on SS Road, Raju Building in Professor Gali and Choudhury Watch, Tip Top Gali, Lakhtokia.

During the raid, a total of 6 people were apprehended by the police team. They are Kishore Choudhary (49), owner of Choudhary Watch, Ranjit Paul (50), Ranjit Sutradhar, Pritam Roy (23), Sujit Das (34), Rupak Baidya (34). Another accused, the owner of Bardhan Time, Biplab Bardhan was found absent during the raid and attempts are on to apprehend him.

A total number of 1287 counterfeit watches were seized from Bardhan Time and 2043 counterfeit watches from Choudhary Watch.

Assam Police has already registered a case regarding the complaint under the Crime Branch police station vide case number 4/23 under sections 420 IPC read with Sections 63/ 65 of the Indian Copyright Act and Sections 103/ 104 of the Trademark Act. Legal action has been initiated against the accused involved in this case of trading counterfeit watches.
