Guwahati: The 70th Death anniversary of Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi was held at his samadhi near Navagraha Crematorium in Assam's Guwahati on Wednesday, August 5.
Assam's present Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also paid tribute to Assam's first Chief Minister Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi on his death anniversary.
Taking to Twitter, Assam CM Sonowal wrote "Remembering an icon of Assam's history, freedom fighter & our first chief minister post-Independence, Bharat Ratna, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi on his death anniversary."
For serving Assam and its people with pure dedication, the then Governor of Assam Jayram Das Doulatram conferred him with the title 'Lokpriya' which means "loved by all."
Assam Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya also paid floral tribute on the statue of the former Chief Minister of Assam, who was also a leading Indian independent activist, on his death anniversary.
On the occasion, the minister also made an announcement regarding the formation of Assam Pradesh BJP state committee on Tuesday.
