Assam: PCB Issues Timings For Bursting Crackers on Christmas And New Year

The PCB (Pollution Control Board) has specified the timings for the bursting of firecrackers during the festive time of Christmas and New Year in Assam.

GUWAHATI: As the festive days of Christmas and New Year have arrived people are excited to celebrate the upcoming year with full enjoyment but they must keep in mind that no firecrackers will be allowed before 11:45 pm and after 12:30 during Christmas and New Year.

As per the given timings ahead of the 2021 Christmas and New Year 2022, firecrackers will be allowed from midnight 11:55 pm to 12:30 pm during the festival of Christmas and on the Eve of New Year.

Earlier in the month of October this year ahead of Diwali, the Pollution Control Board has released a notification giving the order of complete ban on the sale of all types of firecrackers as well as bursting of crackers except the use of green crackers. The PCB (Pollution Control Board) in its notification on 22 October has directed the following:

1. Complete ban imposed on the sale and bursting of all kinds of crackers except green crackers in the state of Assam until further notice issued by the board over the same matter.

2. Only green crackers will be allowed to be sold in the state and the bursting of crackers is allowed for just 2 hours i.e. from evening 08:00 pm to 10:00 pm. During the festival of Chatt Puja the permission for bursting crackers will be given from the evening 06:00 pm to 08:00 pm, and during the festival of Christmas and New Year bursting fire will be allowed from 11:55 pm at night to 12:30 pm.

3. Other than the above-mentioned festivals, prior permission of the DC (Deputy Commissioner) of the concerned districts will be necessary for the use of the green crackers in Assam for a limited time period i.e. not more than 2 hours.

The important decisions have been made according to the directives of the Supreme Court of India.
