GOLAGHAT: In the midst of nationwide calls for a plastic boycott, Kaziranga has implemented a ban on single-use plastics. A young environmentalist from Kaziranga named Chandan Nath has been offering bamboo bottles (bahar chunga), to both domestic and foreign visitors in place of plastic bottles. Over time, Chandan Nath, a tour guide for Kaziranga, has advocated for environmental protection by calling for a boycott of plastic.

The bahor chunga, a staple of Assamese ethnic life, has been infused with and replaced by plastic bottles for visitors with a unique kind of bamboo bottle known as a self-made Kaziranga Bamboo Bottle. One of the draws for foreign visitors to Kaziranga is the bambo bottle.

Both foreign and local tourists have praised and commented on Chandan Nath's decision to satisfy their thirst by drinking water from bamboo bottles.

In addition, Assam's Chandan Nath has previously had national media attention for his environmentally friendly efforts with his handcrafted bamboo bottles.

For this step, Chandan Nath has already been successful in getting his name included to both the India Book of Records and The Asia Book of Records. Bollywood star Ayushman Khurana also took these bamboo bottles from Kaziranga, a plastic substitute, from the US embassy. Visitors are thrilled with the makeover. However, tourists also gain a sense of accomplishment from sipping water in bamboo bottles, enjoying the opportunity to take selfies and other pictures with the bottles emblazoned with their names, and carrying the bottles home with them from Kaziranga as a memory.
