Karimganj: Bangladesh took back 42 Bangladeshi nationals, including 33 men and 9 women from Assam, who had illegally entered Assam over the past three years. They were sent back on Monday from the Sutarkandi International Border check post in Karimganj district of south Assam.
Mayank Kumar, the Superintendent of Police of Karimganj district said that these illegal immigrants came from nine districts of Assam. They were arrested from Sivasagar, Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Guwahati, Cachar, Karimganj, Sonitpur, Kamrup and South Salmara districts.
These 42 Bangladeshi nationals were staying at different detention centres in the state for past two or three years. The Foreigners' Tribunal had declared them illegal foreigners.
Kumar said that the Bangladeshi nationals were detained 2-3 years back under the Foreigners' Act. They deported the Bangladeshi nationals through legal procedures.
