Assam: Police Addresses More Than 500 Civilians’ Issues

GUWAHATI: On Monday, Assam state police took up grievances of more than 500 individuals across the region. Notably, it was the inaugural day of the new initiative undertaken by state police authorities to address public grievances by senior officers. 

Assam DGP, GP Singh introduced this new phenomenon to merge the gap between public and police and assist the people in addressing their issues m, which often goes unheard as claimed by the general public. 

The Dibrugarh police on Monday started a special initiative for public grievance redressal related to police matters as per the directions of the Director General of Police (DGP), Assam. On the first day, 20 public grievances from various parts of Dibrugarh district were heard personally and resolved by Superintendent of Police (SP) Shwetank Mishra in the open ground at the SP office premises. 

A well defined plan has been traced out to carry on the initiative in a smooth manner. The Director General of Police has ordered all the SPs to keenly observe the flow of the new step so that it does not go in vain. Further, the DGP also claimed that if there is any sort of carelessness spotted in the department, the authorities will not tolerate it. Assam state administration is continuously trying to enhance the system in an more efficient way. 

GP Singh, the most recent DGP of Assam has recently made a decision for the general public. The newly appointed DGP conducted a meeting with varied police personnels on 2nd of February, Thursday. The meeting included SPs of different ranks and several decisions has been made in the meeting.

All superintendent departments along with the Assam police headquarters, will take up the responsibility to assign an officer on every working day from 11:30am to 1:30am, who will chat with the public to ensure Grievance Redressal. These officers will stay in contact with the public and hear out issues faced by them. 

 GP Singh was appointed as the new DGP of Assam on 1st of February, 2023.
