KOKRAJHAR: One Rahim Ali (34) of Alubhui Borgola village under Salkocha police outpost of Dhubri district, was caught by the local people while he was trying to rape a minor girl on Tuesday evening.
Sources said that the minor girl was with her mother in a small tea stall near Dheer Beel picnic spot on Tuesday and her mother asked her to go home to study in the evening. She was on way her home when Ali took advantage and forcefully took her to another place. But villagers caught Ali when the girl cried for help. The villagers caught Ali and informed the police. Later, Kokrajhar police team brought Ali to Kokrajhar. A case has been registered against Ali at Kokrajhar PS. Ali reportedly has two wives.
Meanwhile, vice-president of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), Pratibha Brahma, who is also the chairperson of Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB), expressed concern over the rape attempt. She said that two tribal minor girls were raped and murdered at Abhaikhuti in the recent past and the victim families are yet to get due justice as the accused are simply arrested and sent to jail. She demanded that the accused person, Rahim Ali should be given harsh punishment so that such incidents are not repeated in society.
