GUWAHATI: In a major incident, the Assam state police authorities have
initiated disciplinary action against the woman constable who publicly chided a
woman illicit liquor seller to become a prostitute instead of selling liquor.
According to the reports, the authorities have sent back the constable to the police reserve which is considered as a form of police department disciplinary action against its erring officials.
On Friday, a police troupe and state Excise Department
officials carried out an operation against illicit liquor sellers in the First
and Second Bamunigaon area under the Abhayapuri Police Station, Bongaigaon.
During the operation, a woman constable threw expletives at a woman illicit
liquor seller and made obscene remarks against her.
"Keep control over your tongue. We will take you to the police station dragging your hair. Instead of selling liquor, be a prostitute. Then, you can earn more,'' the constable rebuked the liquor seller.
The incident was captured on a mobile video camera by someone present in the spot. Later, the video was on social media by the person which created widespread resentment against the woman constable. Facing the criticism Bongaigaon SP Swapnanil Deka ordered to reserve close the constable and instituted an inquiry into the incident.
